Extraordinary Accident Happened in UTP

Tronoh, 19 February 2012 - Have you heard that there was a strange accident case happened in UTP? An UTP student was struck by lightning and found died beside the road. It was believed that the student was returning to his village during a storm. The following paragraph will further explain on the witness how the accident happened, the cause of the accident and steps to overcome it.

     The student was found died on the street at late night. From the official autopsy report. the cause of death was due to the student was struck by lightning and instantly burned to death. This was the first case happened in UTP history. The victim was known as Lim Jia Teng, he is one of the January 2012 intake student. From one of the witness, Ernest Ho, it is believed that during that night, it was a huge storm and thundering rain. The victim had just finished his class and wanted to get back to his hostel quickly. The victim was talking to the witness while rushing back to his hostel. Suddenly, a lightning stroke and his friend lost contact of him. When the UTP guards were going on their daily patrol on the nest day, they found the died body and quickly report to the authorities.

     The cause of the accident was due to the carelessness of the student itself. It was believed that the student was walking beside the tree when a lightning stuck the tree and electrified the student. This show that the student ignored the danger that was going to happened. The natural environment of the University which was located near seaside that heavy storm can easily happened. Beside that, the security of UTP wasn't patrolling during the storm to make sure that everything was fine.

     The Vice Chancellor, Datuk Dr.Zainal Abidin Haji Kasim had reported the case to the police and sent out notice to all staff and students. Authorities was invited to give talk about personal safety. Moreover, UTP security also enhanced the security system of the campus by increasing the patrolling time. Lastly, new rule was introduce by Vice Chancellor to all staff and student.

    This accident was the first and only case happened in UTP , the authorities will start to take such case seriously and prevent such a case from happening again.
