Sleep Less or
Sleep More
On 4th April ,at Lecture Room 3 ,Block N
,Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) ,I posted a question to find out about how
many hours does an university student sleep everyday .I have chosen this
particular topic as a research to be carried out because ,for me ,getting enough
hours of sleep can directly affect an
university student's performance in academic or sports and ,withal ,is
paramount important to his or her overall health and well-being .Thus ,I
believe that an university student should get between 6 and 10 hours of sleep
everyday.
A survey of
this research is carried out among 29 UTP students ,who involved 28 local
students and 1 international student .Also ,this group of participants
comprised of 8 female students and 21 male students ,with the range of 17 to 20
years old and are mixed race and religion .They are currently taking
Engineering and Business Information System courses in UTP .During the survey
session ,all the 29 students sat in a circle and a paper with questionnaire was
passed among the 29 participants
including me and all were required to answer it .
After the
survey ,the questionnaire was analysed meticulously and all the answers were
categarised into 8 categories in the terms of range of hours - (1-3)hours
,(4-6)hours ,(7-9)hours ,(10-12)hours ,(13-15)hours ,(16-18)hours ,(19-21)hours
and (22-24)hours .Based on the statistic I did ,all the participants answered
the question .Obviously ,the results show that there 11 students(38%) who have
their sleep in (7-9)hours ,which is also the highest peak of statistic graph
.Next ,there are 9 students (31%) and 5 students (17%) who sleep (4-6)hours and
(10-12)hours everyday ,respectively .It is followed by (1-3)hours category
which consists of 4 students (14%).There is no participant who is in the rest
categories ,that's mean no student who sleeps more than 12 hours per day.
As a
conclusion ,this research has been gone successfully .The results are
considered realistic as a high percentage of students sleep in the appropriate
range of hours everyday as what I believed .I suggest that an university
student should sleep 7 to 9 hours per day .For the students who have less hours
of sleep ,it is the time to redress your bad habit .Having enough rest or sleep
is not only helping us to get better performance in daily chores but also
reduce the risk of developing disease in our body .Lastly ,much gratitude and
appreciation for the participants who willingly and honestly answered the
question .
