Uni Students Drifting Their Lives Away

Tronoh,Perak-Have you ever heard of illegal drifting? At Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP),drifting is among the most anticipated sport that students await though it goes against the rules.Foundation up to final year students participate enthusiastically annually in this illegal event.According to a participant, drifting is such a hype there because it’s a way to have fun.The following paragraphs will explain on the causes, effects and ways to prevent illegal drifting.
The main cause students get involved in these irrelevant event is due to negative influence from mass media. With movies like Tokyo Drift and KL Drift, there is no doubt that it is the primary cause. There is also lack of guidance and moral teachings from parents.Parents nowadays are too busy with their jobs till they have forgotten their primary responsibilities at home.Next is the rules and regulations which are not tight enough till the varsity students dare to go against them.Lack of religious practice also has been the main cause of this frustration.
The most obvious effect of drifting in varsities are portraying bad influence to the younger generation. The younger generation would follow in the negative footsteps of the seniours. It would also tarnish the name of universities throughout Malaysia.Other countries would have a bad impression of the universities.Studies would also get effected as they would spend more time on drifting than to concentrate on more serious things like studying for the exams. On top of that, accident rates increases drastically which simply would give rise to increase in fatalities.
Lastly, preventive measures have been taken by the government.Measures like conducting awareness campaigns in all universities in Malaysia in a frequency of once every year. With that, students not only are more aware of the risk the face when they drift but is knowledgeable. The most effective method is to amend a new Act concerning road rules and regulations. For example,by fining them more and having more police patrolling varsities, there is no shadow of doubt that the students will be more aware and cautious when they think of drifting.
Conclusion is that all students should think twice when deciding to drift. It does not only put their lives at risk but others as well. This generation is the future of our country and they are the ones who are going to lead the present into Vision 2020.The young generation now should not only prepare themselves intellectually but physically as well.
